It looks like NIT-K is gradually gaining prominence as a recruiter's haven. About 250 companies will throng the campus to hire the best talent. In the last two months, 125 companies came to the campus seeking high-quality workforce and they recruited nearly 540 students, comprising both graduates an d postgraduates.
"Companies flock to NIT-K because of our alumni, who have been working in these firms and doing excellent work," said Lakshman Nandagiri, professor in-charge, training and placement, NIT-K.
The highest salary package per annum offered so far are from Code Nation, Bengaluru (Rs 24 lakh), Adobe and Practo Tech (Rs 20 lakh), followed by software giant Microsoft (Rs 18 lakh). The minimum package is Rs3.3 lakh.
Last year, Japan-based work application offered Rs 35 lakh to a candidate, who is now placed in Singapore. Graduates are offered less salary package when compared to the postgraduate students. Some companies though ask candidates to sign a bond, ranging from one to two years.
"The second interview round for internet giant Google is in process; three students have been shortlisted. They may be offered a better package," said Nandagiri. Last year, around 225 companies visited the campus and selected our students. This year, the number of companies may cross above 250, he added.
Three years ago, Facebook made it way to the campus, but hasn't turned up in the recent years. The highest numbers of students recruited are from computer science, and 25 have been placed this year. Lakshman said work locations are both in India or aboard.
On the recruitment process, Nandagiri explained that normally the placements in NIT-K commence in the beginning of the final year.
"An invitation is sent to the former recruiters in May. Along with the invitation, a form is provided, seeking the company profile and information. After approval from the companies, a schedule is prepared. The date of visit is intimated to the companies in June. On the allotted day, the company visits the campus, makes pre-placement talk, conducts tests and interviews and selects the candidates," Nandagiri said.
